Business Ally Program
Expanding opportunities for local and small business at the 2019 Halifax Pride Festival is one of my goals for this year’s event.
Although this effort allowed us to address concerns of corporate branding at the festival, I have since heard from some local businesses that the sponsorship threshold can be cost prohibitive. Our lowest sponsorship rate (Friends of Pride) requires a $1,000 cash or in-kind contribution in return for logo and sponsor recognition. For many local community businesses, that amount exceeds their budget capabilities and there simply was no affordable way to support the festival and 2SLGBTQ+ community. By raising our rates, we had inadvertently put up barriers to the inclusion of our local business community.
To respond to this need, I am working to create a new tier for local and small business supporters. While the details have yet to be finalized, the following is an outline of the program I anticipate implementing in 2019. Open to small and local businesses only for approximately $100-$250, businesses will receive:
Listing online and in the Pride Guide as a Pride Ally (does not include logo recognition)
Invite to Halifax Pride’s Inclusivity and Terminology Training Workshop
To year-long special events
Discounted rate on Parade Application
Discounted group workshop rates
A free rainbow flag to hang outside their business
