Call for 2018 Performers and Speakers Now Open

With planning for the 2018 Festival well underway, Halifax Pride is looking for input and feedback from our community. Let us know who you want to see this year.

Visit the Performers page to submit your suggestion for a speaker, artist, or performer. All suggestions are reviewed by our Programming Committee.

Halifax Pride and the Programming Committee are also accepting submissions from speakers, artists, and performers to perform at Halifax Pride events. Submissions must be received by Thursday, March 1st. Selected performers will be contacted by early April. Due to the volume of submissions received, we may be unable to respond to all who submit applications.

Programming of QBIPOC and Trans* speakers/performers will be prioritized. If you are an artist who is Black, Indigenous, a Person of Colour, and/or a member of the Trans* community, and wish to self identify, we welcome you to indicate this in your application.

Events being programmed by the Halifax Pride Programming Committee include but are not limited to:

  • Outdoor Dances
  • Speakers Series
  • Comedy Shows
  • Live Music Shows

Find both the submission application, and performer and artist suggestion form here

SAFER SPACES STATEMENT

Halifax Pride is committed to encouraging conditions for safer spaces at our community gatherings. Everyone must feel respected, valued for who they are, and able to express themselves, regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, age, physical or mental ability.

Halifax Pride commits to and encourages all those who gather with us to:

  • Speak from personal experiences and avoid speaking on behalf of others

  • Try to use "I" statements to share reactions or experiences "I feel..." "I am affected by..."

  • Don't make assumptions about others’ identity or experiences

  • Be mindful of how long and often we speak so that everyone has a chance to contribute

  • Consider the impact of privilege and intersectionality on discussions

  • Listen to each other so we understand the various perspectives

  • Clarifying questions are encouraged

  • Share beliefs, opinions, and points of view rather than judgements

  • Allow others to speak and refrain from side conversations

  • Maintain confidentiality. Information shared that should stay inside these walls.

  • Notify a meeting organizer with specific concerns about being identified or photographed

  • We are all here to learn and all have things to offer the space

To our Halifax 2SLGBTQ+ community:

Halifax Pride has taken your concerns about Trixie Mattel’s previous comedy sketch very seriously - this is a regrettable situation.

Upon receiving the complaint, we immediately reached out to our partners, including those in the Jewish community, for guidance. We also reached out to the artist and have received confirmation that this particular act will not be part of January’s Laugh-and-a-Half event.

Halifax Pride is committed to creating spaces and opportunities that are safe, inclusive, and respectful to all communities. We look forward to presenting a comedy performance from Trixie Mattel and other performers that is reflective of these values.
