Halifax Pride has a variety of staff, contract, and volunteer roles within the organization to assist with festival and society operations. Halifax Pride contract and full-time staff must embrace the values and policies of the Halifax Pride Society.

Roles are designated for persons who identify as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Successful candidates are also required to be:

PART-TIME / CONTRACT ROLES

PARADE DESTAGING COORDINATOR

The Parade Destaging Coordinator supports the safe and efficient breakdown of the Halifax Pride Parade at the conclusion of the event. Working closely with the Parade Manager, this role oversees participant flow through the designated destaging area, ensuring floats, vehicles, performers, and walking groups exit the parade route safely while minimizing congestion and maintaining public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the parade destaging plan under the direction of the Parade Manager

  • Coordinate participant movement through the designated destaging area following the conclusion of the parade

  • Direct participants to appropriate unloading and dismantling locations in accordance with established procedures

  • Work with Volunteer Leads, Traffic Control personnel, Security, and Police to maintain a safe and efficient flow of vehicles and participants

  • Liaise with Police and other emergency services as directed by the Parade Manager to address operational or traffic-related issues

  • Monitor the destaging area for congestion, safety concerns, or operational issues and communicate them to the Parade Manager

  • Provide guidance and support to parade participants regarding exit routes and destaging expectations

  • Ensure participants comply with designated unloading locations and road closure requirements

  • Assist with resolving participant questions or issues while maintaining the overall flow of the destaging process

  • Support the completion of parade operations until all participants have safely exited the area

  • Contribute to a professional, organized, and welcoming experience for parade participants and volunteers

On-Site and Availability Requirements

  • Required to attend mandatory in-person safety training prior to the festival

  • Participates in pre-parade preparation activities and walkthroughs as scheduled during the contract period

  • Must be available for the full duration of Parade Day (July 18), including pre-event setup, active parade operations, and post-parade destaging until all participants have safely cleared the area

  • Additional availability may be required for planning meetings or operational preparation leading up to the parade


Festival site coordinator

The Festival Site Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the Halifax Pride Festival site, with a primary focus on vendor and supplier coordination, site logistics, and load-in/load-out activities. Working closely with the Operations Manager, this role serves as a key point of contact for vendors and suppliers, helping ensure the festival site is built, operated, and dismantled safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination of festival site load-in and load-out activities in accordance with the site schedule

  • Act as a primary point of contact for vendors, suppliers, and contractors arriving on site

  • Coordinate vendor arrivals and direct suppliers to the appropriate locations for setup and deliveries

  • Maintain clear communication with vendors throughout the festival, responding to operational questions and resolving issues as they arise

  • Monitor vendor spaces to ensure they remain compliant with festival guidelines and operational requirements

  • Liaise with the Operations Manager and site contractors regarding logistical needs, deliveries, and infrastructure concerns

  • Track site issues and communicate maintenance or operational needs to the appropriate teams

  • Assist with coordinating vehicle access, deliveries, and site movements while maintaining pedestrian safety

  • Support site inspections and help identify potential safety or logistical concerns

  • Contribute to a professional, organized, and welcoming environment for vendors, suppliers, contractors, and festival partners

On-Site and Availability Requirements

  • Must be available for duration of the festival, including load in and out (July 13 - July 27)

  • Required to attend mandatory in-person safety training prior to the festival

  • Primary responsibilities begin with festival site load-in and continue through site load-out

  • Must be available during key load-in and load-out periods, including extended hours as operational needs require

  • Expected availability throughout the full festival period, including both weekends and peak event days

  • Serves as an on-site point of contact for vendors and suppliers throughout the festival
