The Garrison Grounds

Each year, we host all major events on our Festival Site (Garrison Grounds at Citadel Hill).

We are excited to welcome you to the site, and want to offer some tips and info about accessing it and events!

Please note, there are currently no provincially mandated COVID restrictions for events. We encourage folks to wear masks and wash your hands frequently on site, and be respectful of others.

ARRIVING

  • The entrance to the Festival Site is located on Sackville Street. This is also the Accessible Entrance/Exit.

  • The main exit to the site is located on the Bell Rd side of the site. This exit is not accessible.

  • The best way to get to the site is on foot or by cab! Parade Day (July 18) will see a lot of traffic in the downtown core, and we advise folks plan ahead as there is no vehicle access to the site after 11:00AM.

  • Folks can expect to wait in line to enter nighttime entertainment events as our processing times may be slower (QTBIPOC Showcase, The Bump & Grind, etc), we ask that folks line up down Sackville St (toward the waterfront).

PARKING

There is no public parking available on the site, in either parking lot. Anyone who parks in the Sackville St lot or Bell Rd lot risk being towed.

There are three (more can be added if needed, ask Info Booth volunteers) designated Accessible Parking spots in the Sackville St lot. Info Booth volunteers can help assist folks accessing the lot to use them.

THE BAR

This year, beverages can be purchased directly at the bar. Halifax Pride is moving to a cashless payment system, and most major credit and debit cards will be accepted.

Drink tokens will no longer be used for bar service. If you still have unused Halifax Pride drink tokens from previous years, please speak with a member of our bar team on site.

Please note that cash will not be accepted at festival bars, and there are no ATMs on site.

WASHROOMS

  • There are plenty of gender neutral and accessible washrooms on site.

  • We ask that you be respectful and allow wheelchair users to the front of the line.

  • Reminder to wash your hands at the hand washing stations!

FIRST AID

First aid service providers will be on site with us during most events, in the first aid tent just inside the gate.

Community Care Team

Our Community Care Team is here to help make sure everyone at Halifax Pride feels safe, supported, and able to enjoy the festival. If you need assistance that doesn’t require first aid or medical attention, our Community Care volunteers are available to help.

Whether you’ve lost your friends in the crowd, need help calling a ride home, have a question about the site, or just need a moment of support, they’re there for you.

Members of the Community Care Team can be identified by their blue Halifax Pride volunteer T-shirts. If you need assistance at any time, feel free to approach one of them.

They will usually be stationed around the first aid tents near the entrance and exit

FOOD & WATER

Food vendors will be on site throughout the festival, offering a variety of options for attendees. Vendors will be located near the Sackville Street entrance and in designated areas of the festival site.

The festival site is also within one block of many restaurants and other food establishments in downtown Halifax, giving attendees plenty of nearby options.

Free drinking water is available on site from publicly accessible water taps, as well as at the bar and merchandise booth.

ACCESSIBLE SPACE

The Accessible Space will be open any time the Festival Site is open. This wheelchair friendly space will offer accessible viewing, seating, washrooms, and a bar during nighttime events.

The Accessible Space does not require special tickets.

There is a separate accessible seating/viewing area in front of the stage for ASL. We ask that wheelchair users use the VIP entrance to access this space. There will be volunteers available to assist.

ANIMALS ON SITE

While we love your fluffy pals, we ask that you leave them at home if you are heading to the Festival Site. Our pet policy only permits certified service animals on site. We ask that you respect this space as guests may have allergies or discomfort around dogs. We also ask that guests be mindful of the heat when bringing pets to events like the parade.

TENTS & SHADE

We have scaled back the number of tents on site to accommodate the growing number of guests we see each year. We will have a number of patio umbrellas and tents on site during daytime events, but guests are welcome to bring hand held umbrellas for shade.

Water taps and bottled water are available on site at all events.
